Prosecutor-General Anna Vardapetyan officially asked parliament on Monday to approve launching criminal proceedings against Artur Sargsyan, a Member of Parliament representing the opposition Hayastan bloc.
\Sargsyan is allegedly involved in
the recently uncovered coup plot, according to prosecu-tors. According to law enforce-ment, the MP conspired to commit terrorism and seizure of power together with other accomplices, namely Arch-bishop Bagrat Galstanyan, who is currently jailed. Vardapetyan said the in-vestigation has obtained suf-ficient evidence to indict the lawmaker on charges of con-spiracy to commit terrorism and usur-pation of power. Sargsyan has denied wrongdoing. Launching criminal proceedings against a sitting MP requires parlia-ment to strip the suspect of immunity.
