Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a preliminary agreement to the peace framework in Washington on August 8 after three- and one-half decades of conflict; many political observers in Washington, Paris, Yerevan, Baku and elsewhere believe the conflict lasted this long only because The Russian Federation controlled the South Caucasus region which includes Armenia, Azerbaijan and Artsakh/Nagorno Karabakh Republic; and Kremlin pursued an age-old policy of “divide and conquer”; what started as a peaceful self-determination movement in Artsakh, was converted into an armed conflict when the Russian Omon forces brutally ignited an ethnic conflict between Azerbaijanis and Armenians; the conflict which could have been settled through the legal framework of public referendum, mushroomed into a full-scale war – The Artsakh First Liberation War (1988-1994); Armenians emerged victorious; Moscow was preoccupied by severe internal crises; although Russia and Armenia entered into a mutual defense agreement in 1998, Moscow betrayed and backstabbed Armenia on several occasions; the icing on the cake came during the 44-Day anti-Armenian terrorist aggression in Artsakh/Nagorno Karabakh by Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Israel, Pakistan and ISIS in Fall 2020 when Moscow openly sabotaged Armenian defense efforts; Kremlin was also joined by its stooges in Armenia and Artsakh when Russian-cocooned Armenian general officers and corrupt politicians in Stepanakert and Yerevan – namely former Presidents Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan covertly sabotaged the Armenian Armed Forces; later Russian Defense Minister Soigu congratulated Azerbaijan on a brilliant ‘joint operation’ against Armenians; as a result of anti-Armenia betrayal, The Russian Federation’s rating suffered immensely among millions of Homeland and Diaspora Armenians – especially the American Armenians; the clear majority of American Armenians responded positively and approval to President Donald J. Trump’s and his Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s groundbreaking peace initiative between Yerevan and Baku; however, rightfully so, American Armenians expressed frustration at the fact that a) the indigenous Armenian population of Artsakh/Nagorno Karabakh remain the victims of genocide by Baku; their right-of-return remains unaddressed; b) Armenian prisoners of war still linger in Baku prisons without any justification; brokered by the US president, Donald Trump, a comprehensive peace agreement without blocking indigenous Armenians’ right to return to Artsakh/Nagorno Karabakh; the tripartite meeting also presented Armenia’s Prime Minister Pashinyan to personally ask Pres. Trump’s assistance in releasing Armenian prisoners of war still being held in Baku; some media outlets are characterizing Armenia’s move as “politically risky;” however, the landslide majority of Armenians in the Homeland and Diaspora view positively Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s decision to pursue peace that guarantees Armenia’s Sovereignty, Territorial integrity, Independence and National Security; the Aug. 8 Joint Declaration was signed by the President of the United States of America Donald J. Trump, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev; the third clause of the joint declaration reaffirms “the importance of the opening of communications between the two countries for intrastate, bilateral, and international transportation for the promotion of peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and in its neighborhood on the basis of respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and jurisdiction of the States; these efforts are to include unimpeded connectivity between the main part of the Republic of Azerbaijan and its Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic through the territory of the Republic of Armenia with reciprocal benefits for international and intrastate connectivity for the Republic of Armenia;” in the Fifth Clause of the Joint Declaration, the signatories, United States, Armenia and Azerbaijan clearly acknowledge the need to chart a course for a bright future not bound by the conflict of the past, consistent with the Charter of the United Nations and the 1991 Almaty Declaration” which officially recognizes the borders of all the former Soviet Socialist republics including Armenia and Azerbaijan; the clear winners from the American-brokered peace declaration: Armenia, Azerbaijan, United States, France, India, Iran, The European Union and the Free World in general; the clear losers: Russia and its stooges in Armenia, namely former Presidents Robert Kocharyan, Serzh Sargsyan, Russian KGB agent turned-Catholicos Karekin II, ARF Armenia and their respective hidden assets in Yerevan, Moscow, Paris and Los Angeles; on August 8, 2025, is a significant day for the strengthening of the Sovereignty, Defense, National Security and Independence of the Armenian statehood; Armenia now is ready to move forward with comprehensive house cleaning in terms of detoxing its Judicial branch by establishing complete rule of Law, and holding accountable several corrupt judges that were implanted by the former regimes; De-Russification of Armenia’s institutions including the Armenian Apostolic Church is also in order; many expect the ousting the highly corrupted dictatorial head of the Church Karekin II who is implicated in numerous nefarious acts; ousting Karekin II will pave the way for the re-establishment of democracy within the Church and eradication of the Russian-sponsored anti-Armenian mafia led by Karekin II, his blood brother Archbishop Yezras of Moscow and Western Diocese Archbishop Hovnan Derderian.
