The “Wings of Tatev” cable car has won the prestigious World Travel Awards for the fourth time, earning the title of “World’s Leading Cable Car Ride” after again surpassing competitors from Bolivia, Brazil, Vietnam, Canada, New Zealand, the United States, and South Africa, having previously won in 2024, 2023, and 2021, with the victory announced in Bahrain at the official World Travel Awards 2025 ceremony based on the results of an open vote, coinciding with the 15th anniversary of the project, which since its launch has become one of the main symbols of Armenian tourism and, built on the initiative of Ruben Vardanyan and listed in the Guinness World Records as the world’s longest reversible cable car at 5,752 meters, has played a key role in the development of the Syunik region and Armenia as a whole by enhancing the country’s tourist appeal, increasing tourist flows to Syunik seventeenfold so that every fifth visitor to Armenia now travels to the region, connecting travelers to one of the country’s most picturesque areas and providing access to the medieval Tatev Monastery, revitalizing the region as a hub for tourism, culture, and local business, driving an elevenfold increase in private sector investment, spurring the opening of around 40 new B&B guesthouses near Tatev and Goris, and operating as part of the “Tatev Revival” program initiated by Ruben Vardanyan and Veronika Zonabend, which united thousands of donors, builders, and volunteers for the socio-economic development of Syunik and directs all project revenues toward the restoration of Tatev Monastery and the development of the Tatev community, while the World Travel Awards—often called the “Travel Oscar”—remain among the most prestigious global honors in tourism, recognizing excellence, high service standards, and innovation in travel and hospitality.
