ASHGABAT — During his working visit to Turkmenistan, President of Ar- menia Vahagn Khachaturyan met with President of the Republic of Iraq Ab- dul Latif Jamal Rashid. Throughout the meeting, the two leaders discussed a wide range of is- sues related to the Armenia–Iraq bi- lateral agenda. They emphasized the importance of sustained efforts aimed at the dynamic development of Ar- menian–Iraqi relations, the expansion of political dialogue based on mutual trust, and the deepening of practical cooperation. The presidents also exchanged views on regional security, peace- building initiatives, and measures to strengthen stability. President Khach- aturyan presented the vision behind Armenia’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative, highlighting its significant potential as a platform for regional connectivity, communication, and in- clusive economic development. In this context, both sides noted that regional stability and interconnected- ness play a decisive role in expanding transportation and economic opportu- nities. The importance of implement- ing the TRIPP project and ensuring the full functioning of all communication routes was underscored. Special attention was also given to the potential for cooperation between Armenia and Iraq in the energy sector, with both leaders noting that effective implementation of joint projects could yield substantial mutual benefits. The parties stressed the importance of expanding bilateral economic coop- eration, emphasizing the need to deep- en collaboration in trade, investments, and other areas of mutual interest, as well as to consistently promote initia- tives aimed at strengthening business ties. The discussion also touched upon organizational and substantive issues related to the COP-17 Conference of the UN Convention on Biological Di- versity, which will be hosted by Ar- menia in 2026. Both sides highlighted the significance of holding high-level international events of this nature, as they serve as important platforms for addressing global environmental chal- lenges and enhancing international co- operation. The presidents expressed satisfac- tion with the growing frequency of high-level reciprocal visits and the strong level of political dialogue in recent years, emphasizing the impor- tance of continuing this positive dy- namic.
