The 68th Grammy Awards have taken place in Los Angeles, with Kendrick Lamar the night’s biggest winner for the second year in a row. The rapper took home five awards, including record of the year for Lu- ther, a duet with SZA, and best rap album for GNX. But he was pipped to the night’s biggest prize – album of the year – by Puerto Rican star Bad Bunny. The “Big Four” categories: Billie Eilish won Song of the Year for Wild- flower, Kendrick Lamar feat SZA – Luther was named winner in the Re- cord of the Year category, Album of the Year went to Bad Bunny for Debí Tirar Más Fotos, and Olivia Dean was named Best new Artist. Pushback from music’s biggest stars against the Trump administration’s campaign targeting illegal immigration, particularly the work of ICE, was visible Sunday from the Grammys red carpet and throughout the telecast. According to the Associated Press, activists spent the week pressing ce- lebrities to don pins protesting the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforce- ment (ICE) presence in cities, working with their teams to spread the mes- sage and circulating them at the many events leading up to the ceremony. Billie Eilish, Finneas and Carole King wore pins while appearing on- stage. Even Justin and Hailey Bieber, who don’t normally address Ameri- can politics, had them. Eilish began her song of the year speech by profess- ing that “no one is illegal on stolen land.” British soul pop singer Olivia Dean, recognized as best new artist, shared that she is the granddaughter of an immigrant — people who she said “deserve to be celebrated.” Expletives flew as ICE got cursed multiple times by winners including Kehlani.“ Before I say thanks to God, I’m gonna say: ICE out,” Bad Bunny said to great applause while accepting the award for best música urbana album. “We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans and we are Ameri- cans.”
