Dana Point — March 10, 2026 Helen Haig, a recognized leader- ship and policy development consul- tant, has been appointed to the Aca- demic World Quest Task Force, for the flagship national youth education program providing opportunities for stu- dents to develop careers in world his- tory, world cultures, and international relations. The task force, convened by the World Affairs Council of America (WACA), brings together leaders from across the country to develop strategies and recommendations for programs to assist high school students seeking ca- reers in international affairs, world his- tory, and world cultures. “I am honored to join this important national effort,” said Haig. “Our com- munities, and our nation, are facing significant challenges in international affairs, and I look forward to working with colleagues to help develop talent- ed young leaders.” Haig was selected for the task force in recognition of her leadership and contribu- tions to the World Affairs Council, including: • Serving as an officer of the Executive Board of the Orange County Chapter of the World Affairs Council (WACOC) • Developing a Young Professional and Intercolle- giate program for WACOC, and • Her experience in Governance and in Education Policy According to Matthew Hughes, Executive Director of WACA, the task force was created to facilitate access to the basics of global engagement that are harder to come by with stressed school budgets. AWQ is filling that need nationwide. Dr. Daniel Villaneuva, Director of Global Education, says AWQ provides  a unique opportunity for high school students to learn about world affairs through a competitive and engaging competition. On average, 3,000 stu- dents representing some 35 local Coun- cils across the United States participate annually in AWQ competitions. Win- ning teams are invited to represent their high school, city, and local Council at the AWQ National Competition, held annually in Washington, DC. In addition to serving on the na- tional task force, Haig looks forward to involving interested Armenian high schools in southern California and nationally. Students can make invalu- able career contacts, attend high-level diplomatic receptions, and learn from decision makers and key think tanks in this program. Haig also can provide opportunities for sponsoring the events at a range of levels that will bring national recogni- tion and opportunities to donors.
