US-Armenian filmmaker Christine Haroutounian’s Black Star Angel has won the top prize at the Asian Project Market, held in Busan, South Korea, as part of the Busan International Film Festival—the largest film festival in Asia. The story follows a woman who goes to war after her life begins to crumble. The film’s narrative spans Jerusalem, Armenia, and Paris. Filming is scheduled to begin in spring 2027. Black Star Angel will be Haroutounian’s second feature-length film. Her debut, After Dreaming, which explores the theme of Artsakh, premiered earlier at this year’s Berlinale.
