The Catholicos has expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome he received from the Armenian faithful in Canada during his visit to the communities in Montreal and Toronto on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of his pontificate, calling on everyone to lead their lives true to Christian and Armenian values, His Eminence Archbishop Anoushavan, Prelate, was part of the entourage of His Holiness during the visit between October 17 and October 21, On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, His Holiness Catholicos Aram I was warmly received by Prime Minister Mark Carney for a meeting that lasted approximately one hour in Ottawa, during which they discussed the illegal detention of the Artsakh leadership by the Azerbaijani dictatorship, The Catholicos urged the Canadian Prime Minister to undertake concrete efforts toward the immediate release of the political prisoners, the safe return of the people of Artsakh and the restoration of their right to self-determination, as well as the preservation of Artsakh’s religious and cultural heritage, The discussion between the Prime Minister and His Holiness also focused on regional and international issues, including Lebanon, Syria, the Middle East, Armenia, Gaza, and Palestinian affairs, The Catholicos shared his views and expressed his concerns regarding these developments, emphasizing the need for peace, dialogue, and justice in all contexts, Also present at the meeting alongside the Catholicos were His Eminence Archbishop Papken, Prelate of Canada; Khoren Dimirdjian, Chairman of the Armenian National Committee of Canada (ANCC); and Mr. Raffi Donabedian, Canadian delegate to the World Assembly of the Holy See of Cilicia and representative of the Armenian National Committee (ANC), “The Church is the house of God, and God invites us to be faithful children of this house, to give meaning to our lives through its values, to light our way, and to fill our lives with heavenly truths,” His Holiness said on Sunday, October 19, at St. Mary Church in Toronto, filled with parishioners, “This is what it means to be a faithful member of this spiritual home,” With the traditional Hrashapar ceremony, the Catholicos entered the church and was welcomed by Archbishop Papken, who expressed the community’s joy and pride at celebrating this milestone, Archbishop Anoushavan celebrated the Divine Liturgy, In his pontifical message, His Holiness emphasized that faith gains meaning only when expressed through action, and he called on the faithful to uphold three pillars of Armenian Christian life: the Church, the Armenian School, and the Homeland, “Our Church is not merely a building; it is the house of God,” he said, “The Armenian school must remain strong in nurturing our faith, language, and culture,” He expressed gratitude for the opportunities afforded by Canada to the Armenian community and reflected on the links with the Armenian homeland, “While we are citizens of this country and grateful for its opportunities, by the call of our blood and heritage, our eternal homeland is Armenia,” he said, “It is a sacred land, sanctified by the prayers and sacrifices of our saints and martyrs, We must work to keep Armenia strong, both within and beyond its borders,” Following the service, a public reception in the parish hall allowed parishioners to greet His Holiness and receive his blessing, The previous evening, on October 18, the community hosted an official dinner at St. Mary Church’s hall, The event opened with remarks by Very Rev. Karekin Shekherdemian, dean of the church, and Mrs. Zovig Terzian, chairperson of the Executive Council of the Canadian Prelacy, both of whom praised His Holiness’s thirty years of devoted service, Ontario MP Aris Babikian read a message from Premier Doug Ford commending the Catholicos’s contributions to interfaith dialogue, while Krikor Postajian, honorary consul of Lebanon in Ontario, conveyed congratulations from the Lebanese government, His Holiness began his Canadian journey in Montreal on Friday, October 17, where he was warmly welcomed at St. Hagop Church by clergy, faithful, and representatives of community organizations led by Archbishop Papken, In his sermon, the Catholicos introduced the theme of his visit, “Let Us Revive Our Community Bodies Together,” calling for renewed unity and active participation in Armenian life.
