YEREVAN /ARKA/. Ar- menia’s Ambassador to Iran, Grigor Hakobyan, and the Vice President of Iran—who also serves as co-chair of the Armenian-Iranian Intergov- ernmental Commission— Hamid Pourmohammadi, met recently to discuss the current state of bilateral freight transport, existing obstacles, and ways to re- solve them. The parties emphasized the importance of the Joint Intergovernmental Commis- sion and noted the need to hold the commission’s 19th meeting in the near future, the Armenian Embassy in Iran reported. It was previously reported that the heads of the customs authorities of Armenia and Iran had reached an agree- ment to launch a “simplified customs corridor” along the Norduz-Meghri route. It is expected that, in the initial phase, this simplified regime will apply specifical- ly to agricultural produce, food products, and certain essential goods.
