Armenia has reaffirmed its support for the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nu- clear Weapons (NPT) and stressed the importance of the Comprehensive Nucle- ar-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) entering into force as soon as possible. The Armenian delega- tion made the statements during thematic discussions on nuclear weapons at the First Committee of the 81st session of the United Na- tions General As- sembly, the Per- manent Mission of Armenia to the UN reported. The delega- tion also under- scored Armenia’s commit- ment to the peaceful use of nuclear energy and close co- operation with the Interna- tional Atomic Energy Agen- cy (IAEA). Particular emphasis was placed on cooperation in ex- tending the operational life- time of Armenia’s nuclear power plant and ensuring a safe and responsible transi- tion to a new nuclear power plant.
