The 44-day Turkey-Azerbaijan terrorist attack against the Armenians of Artsakh in 2020 brought down several masks.

One of the most notable revelations has been that Karekin II and his clan, including Archbishop Yezras of Moscow and Archbishop Hovnan Derderian of Los Angeles, have been identified as collaborators of former regime kleptocrats and oligarchs such as former Pres. Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan. The old regime plutocrats are continuing their looting of both the Armenian state and Armenian Church as well as the Armenian faithful in Diaspora. For them it’s ‘business as usual.’

Another revelation was that the Judiciary of the Republic of Armenia is still largely controlled by “banana” prosecutors and judges acting like puppets of former regime kleptocrats and oligarchs. That’s the main reason why to this day, the looters of the Armenian state have not been brought to justice and the law on ‘confiscation of illegally-acquired assets’ has not been executed.

And the biggest revelation seems to be that during the last three decades, Russia did has not allowed the Republic of Armenia to develop and grow economically, militarily, politically and socially through a network of proxies such as former Pres. Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan. Can we claim that Russian alliance and border protection has not metamorphosed into a subtle Russian occupation of Armenia?
Certain observers may claim that Armenia is under protective custody of Russia. But isn’t that ‘protective’ custody suffocating Armenia?

Some circles claim that Russia is deeply concerned about Nikol Pashinyan’s velvet government and that is why it is indirectly putting pressure on Armenia.

But a recent look at the past three decades has recently brought to light the fact that Russia has obstructed the construction of a new oil pipeline from Iran to Armenia that would transport Iranian oil via Armenia to Europe.

During the reign of Ter-Petrosyan, Kocharyan and Sagsyan, Russia took over various strategic industries in Armenia, such as the nuclear power plant, the railway network, and so on, for the fraction of their actual value. Ter-Petrosyan, Kocharyan and Sagsyan made huge concessions at the cost of Armenian nation for the sake of securing their stay in power in order to carry out their unabated loot of homeland and Diaspora Armenians. And Catholicos Karekin II, in his turn, continues to carry out his plundering of the Armenian Apostolic Church both in Armenia and Diaspora.

Russia’s current policy towards Armenia:

According to Hovsep Khurshudyan, head of the Free Citizen organization, Russia is not a reliable partner and ally.

Recently, during an interview with Factor.am, a question was asked: “Mr. Khurshudyan, the Defense Minister of the Republic of Armenia Vagharshak Harutyunyan told the CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas that ‘large forces are accumulated on both sides of the border, the consequences may be unpredictable if the situation is not resolved quickly.’ Armenia has also applied to the CSTO and Russia for assistance, and a response is expected in the coming days. Are we certain that they will send an armed force here to remove Azerbaijan from our border?”

Mr. Khurshudyan stated: “I have no doubt that they (the Russian leaders) started this game with Azerbaijan, it goes too far and it is dangerous. … Why aren’t they (the Azerbaijanis armed forces) withdrawing now? Why did Russia not condemn them unequivocally, like France, the United States and Canada? Even though the latter are not our military and economic allies, they condemned Azerbaijan. But Russia, that in all respects is our ally, has not! Russia communicated with Armenia only at the level of the representative of their military base here (in Armenia) confirming that the Azerbaijani maps are fake. Look at Zatulin’s statement, it is incredible. It confirms that Russia allowed the start of the second Artsakh war. And by saying ‘allow’, I understand ‘provoke’”.

Factor.am’s next question: “Today, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated: ‘There were no shootings, no clashes. They (Armenians and Azerbaijanis) sat down and calmly agreed on how to resolve the situation. They asked us for support, our military provided such support, an agreement was reached. I do not see any reason to inflame the emotions in this unusual but calmly regulated issue.’  What did you understand from Lavrov’s statement?”

Mr. Khurshudyan answered: “I would like to remind you of the statement of the Prime Minister of Armenia that the Azerbaijanis withdrew in some places, but in any case, the situation was not resolved completely,” he said, adding that in a big sense, nothing had changed. Look at the difference between the Republic of Armenia authorities and (Russian FM) Lavrov. Look at the second comparison: The United States describes Azerbaijan as a provocateur, they say ‘you have provoked. Withdraw your troops!’ France says ‘you have invaded the territory of the Republic of Armenia, withdraw your troops.’ And see how our ally responds. So, what does it mean? Isn’t it obvious that our so-called ally is behind all this? “

Factor.am’s next question: “So, one of the goals of this provocation is to support any of the candidates (in the upcoming June 20 special parliamentary elections)?”

Khurshudyan underlined: “To support their puppets, to push the parliament so that their puppet force is (‘represented’) in the RA parliament. The bigger their segment is, the better. In other words, they are terrifying the Armenian people to show that ‘the current authorities and the revolutionary forces can not solve security issues because they do not like Russia, and Robert Kocharyan is supposedly a friend of Russia, go and elect Kocharyan or it will not be worse, we will provoke more, Azerbaijan will come, Turkey will come.’ This is the first problem. And the second task is to establish control over the serious North-South communication project (between Iran and Armenia), which came to the forefront of public awareness only a few days ago. “

Khurshudyan went on to say that “by this, the West shows that on the one hand, it is ready to defend and support Armenia, which means that ‘we will support it.’ And a message to Russia that ‘it is not a sole player (in Armenia). That ‘he (Putin) cannot do whatever he wants; provoke whenever he wants; what swath of territory will be carved out of Armenia; and after some bargaining, a corridor for Armenia be ‘granted’ at the Meghri corridor, which is against Western interests! Not to mention that it is also against Iran’s interests.”

He continued: “Iran’s case is interesting. It is being said that ‘if we leave the CSTO we will not be able to deploy Western forces because Iran will be against it.’ Sorry, Iran is not necessarily an admirer of Russian troops’ presence (in Southern Armenia’s Syunik Region). Iran understands, especially now, that there are other plans for Iran in the West and the normalization of US-Iranian relations is in the process. It also aims to replace Turkey in the region with Iran in the Middle East — as an ally of the West. The power of the Ayatollahs will be weakened eventually and the role of Iran will be completely changed. Look, the recent release of the statement of the Foreign Minister was an anti-Russian protest action by Iran. The Iranians have done that. What does it mean? This means that Iran is on the path of reconciliation with the West.”

The Armenians of the world must be more active and do everything possible to help Armenia develop a respectable set of foreign relations between Yerevan and diverse regional and international powers. By all means, Armenia’s sovereignty should not be undermined. Armenia should not and does not have any intention of turning into a political toy.

Armenia is a reliable team player in the international arena and is fully backed by the 11-12 million-strong Armenian nation consisting of Armenians in Armenia, Artsakh and Diaspora.

  1. The Russian game in Armenia post the 44-day war seems to be the spread within the country of an atmosphere of instability and fear. This will lead the electorate to favor the return of an oligarch such as Kocharyan to power and precipitate further emigration. For all practical purposes Armenia will become a puppet-government of Russia.

  2. Our problem did not start this morning or last year or last decade.
President Pashinyan failed he had the power and the opportunity to get rid off all the snakes when he became the President, Ter-Petrosyan, Kocharyan, Sagsyan and their followers including members of their family must have been vanished during the first year of his office and all of their assets confiscated.
Where was TASHNAG party when Armenian resources, properties, were being dismantled and sold “ telephone, atomic energy, cognac.“ Just to name a few.
If and only if Armenia wants to galvanize diaspora Armenians.
A: They must clean internal mess once and for all including former President’s and leader of the church.
B: Only one party should be allowed. To allow second part must produce one million signatures.
C: Armenian Parliament Should/Must declare ALL Armenians including 25%,50% Armenians in the world as Citizens of Armenia.

  4. Which ever way you look at it and read about the issues, there is a very clear understanding that this is a political game that is being played by the west, israel and russia and the end result is quiet simple “who cares about Armenia”? “who cares what happens to this ancient civilized and first nation that adopted Christianity, one that assisted the Crusades, and many more – who cares?” that is the tragedy. Shame on all those who have created a football arena without any disregard for “OUR” people and country “ARMENIA”. Disgusting. Politicians and politics is a dirty word and game.
