Tigran Abrahamyan, an MP from the opposition Pativ Unem faction, accused Azerbaijan of attempting to use the fate of 23 Armenians held as political hostages in Baku to weaken Armenia.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Abrahamyan stressed that a key part of the indictment includes accusations against the leaders of Artsakh’s national liberation and independence struggle, which have deeply resonated in Baku.

“What started as propaganda is now being re-framed with a legal justification,” the MP wrote.

Abrahamyan criticized the charges as politically motivated and fabricated. He also pointed out that former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, a constant target of Azeri accusations, consistently maintained his position and publicly expressed his views during negotiations with Azerbaijan.

“The president of Azerbaijan, a country where cases are frequently fabricated even against its own citizens, did not adopt the current aggressive posture during 10 years of negotiations with Serzh Sargsyan, nor did he base his actions on unfounded accusations.

“Now, due to the failure of Armenian authorities’ policies, even Baku’s ambitions, which were once considered unattainable, have become a reality. Today, Azerbaijan not only extracts concessions, but also shows blatant disrespect toward the Pashinyan regime,” Abrahamyan stated.
