Our understanding is that the peace agenda must be pushed forward and implemented, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an interview with Public TV.
“This means facing all the difficulties and trying to resolve and address them,” the Prime Minister said. He described the conclusion of negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan “a very important event.”
“We have a document that is acceptable to both the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, and therefore the next stage should logically be the signing of that document,” PM Pashinyan said, reaffirming that he is ready to put his signature under the text.
The Prime Minister stated that there is no basis or justification for escalation, especially now, because Armenia and Azerbaijan have recognized each other’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and political independence, essentially along the borders of the republics of the Soviet Union. “There may be forces that are in favor of escalation, there may be forces that are against escalation, but escalation must have a justification. Escalation in our region has no justification. Therefore, the next step from this point should be the signing of a peace agreement and its implementation,” PM Pashinyan said.
