The Armenian National Assembly voted 64 to 0 with 2 abstentions to adopt a declaration authored by the Civil Contract faction on establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Presenting the main report, head of the faction Hayk Konjoryan noted that on August 8, 2025, a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan was Initialed in Washington, accompanied by the signing of a peace declaration. “In essence, peace has been established between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Civil Contract faction believes that the National Assembly must officially record this fact and, through adopting this declaration, support the peace achieved and call on all stakeholders to strengthen and develop it,” Konjoryan stressed. Lawmakers highlighted that goodneighborly relations with bordering states and open frontiers would enhance Armenia’s democracy, economy, and legal system. They underlined that the Washington documents open a new chapter for stability, security, and sustainable development. The peace process, MPs emphasized, is perceived by society as the beginning of a new political and social era Countering opposition claims that the agreement contradicts Armenia’s state interests, ruling faction MPs argued that the opposition’s absence from the session reflected the lack of real counterarguments. Deputy Speaker Hakob Arshakyan underlined that Armenia’s effective ties with various countries will be further strengthened by the peace process, which will also lead to diplomatic relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey. “This is the path of a viable state: a state that engages in dialogue, embrac- es peace, freedom, and independence, and guarantees the highest level of security for its citizens,” he said. In his concluding remarks, Hayk Konjoryan noted that another step in strengthening peace had just been re- corded during the meeting between the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Azerbaijan in Copenhagen at the European Political Community summit. He emphasized that the only framework for unblocking regional communications remains the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) project. “Peace serves the citizens of Armenia, while war serves the opposition. Where there is peace, there is no opposition,” Konjoryan stated. Content of the Declaration The National Assembly of Armenia:
