ArmInfo. Critically important devel- opments have been recorded in the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan in recent months, as stat- ed by Armenian Ambassador to Iran Grigor Hakobyan in an interview with Tasnim. He recalled that on August 8, 2025, the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a peace agreement in Washington, D.C., where the par- ties reaffirmed their recognition of each other’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability of borders, and political independence based on the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1991. It was also clearly stated that the parties do not and will not make any territorial claims against each other in the future. “Following the 12th meeting in the Azerbaijani city of Gabala, an agree- ment was reached to hold the next meeting in Armenia. A previously reached agreement was also noted to begin comprehensive work on demar- cating the state border from the north, from the point where the borders of the Republic of Armenia, the Repub- lic of Azerbaijan, and Georgia inter- sect, and then southward, from north to south, to the border of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbai- jan with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said. According to him, one of the key areas of the trilateral agreements is also the unblocking of regional com- munication channels. “Today, we can already state that the meeting of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States in Washington and the subsequent signing of the peace agreement have provided a significant positive shift in the peace agenda, sig- nificantly reducing security risks and creating a de facto peaceful environ- ment in our region. In this context, Armenia highly appreciates the active support and efforts of its international partners, including friendly Iran, to institutionalize the peace achieved be- tween Armenia and Azerbaijan. We are confident that the international community will continue to urge Azerbaijan to demonstrate the neces- sary political will and take the final step by signing a peace agre ment have provided a significant positive shift in the peace agenda, sig- nificantly reducing security risks and creating a de facto peaceful environ- ment in our region.
