YEREVAN /ARKA/. A shipment of approximately 4,500 tons of diesel fuel from Azerbaijan is heading to Ar- menia, Gegham Gevorgyan, Chairman of the Commission for the Protection of Competition and Consumer Rights, told the ARKA news agency on Mon- day. “It should have arrived by now. I can’t say exactly where the cargo is now, but it’s definitely on its way,” Gevorgyan said. Earlier, the Interfax news agency reported that on February 25, 2026, Azerbaijan sent a shipment of approxi- mately 4,500 tons of diesel fuel to Ar- menia via Georgia. The train, consist- ing of 39 tank cars, departed from the Güzdek station toward the Georgian border. On the delivery of goods to Armenia via Azerbaijan Rail freight transport to Arme- nia via Azerbaijan became possible thanks to agree- ments reached between the two countries in Wash- ington on August 8, as well as mem- oranda of under- standing signed be- tween the US and Armenian govern- ments. This route is in operation for the first time since the early 1990s, after the President of Azerbaijan announced on October 21, 2025, the lifting of all restrictions on the transit of goods to Armenia through its territory. The first two consignments of goods to reach Armenia by rail through Georgia and Azerbaijan were a train carrying Russian grain (15 cars, ar- rived on November 5) and a train car- rying Kazakh wheat (approximately 1,000 tons, arrived on November 7). Next, on December 19, a train carrying 1,218 tons of gasoline from Azerbaijan arrived in Armenia, in ac- cordance with the agreements reached between the Armenian and Azerbaijani deputy prime ministers at a meeting on November 28, 2026, in Gabala.
