BATUMI — Nineteen-year-old Emma Poghosyan was crowned European champion in the women’s 86 kg category at the European Weightlifting Champi- onships in Batumi, winning gold with a total of 248 kg. Poghosyan delivered a strong performance in the snatch, successfully com- pleting all three attempts—lifting 102 kg, 105 kg, and 107 kg—to place third in that discipline. She excelled in the clean and jerk, lifting 132 kg, 134 kg, and 141 kg to secure the gold medal overall. “I am very happy about this victory. We worked very hard with my coaches. I don’t want to stop here—I will strive for more. I had been waiting for this day and truly wanted to win. I dedicate this victory to all of us, to our Armenian na- tion,” Poghosyan said after her win. In the same weight category, Armenia’s Liana Gyurjyan won a silver medal in the clean and jerk with a lift of 135 kg and placed fifth overall. Meanwhile, Ara Aghanyan secured his third career silver medal at the Euro- pean Championships. Competing in the men’s 94 kg category, he recorded a total of 381 kg (175 kg in the snatch and 206 kg in the clean and jerk). Aghanyan successfully completed all three snatch attempts—167 kg, 172 kg, and 175 kg—finishing second in that discipline. In the clean and jerk, he lifted 200 kg on his first attempt and 206 kg on his second. He attempted 212 kg on his final lift but was unsuccessful, ultimately placing third in the clean and jerk. The gold medal in this category was won by Bulgaria’s Carlos Nassar, who recorded a total of 386 kg.
