The Armenian Patriarchate of Turkey has published Erdogan’s message. The message of His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of the Republic of Turkey, on the occa- sion of the religious ceremonies to be held on Friday, April 24, 2026: “His Eminence, His Holiness Sa- hak II. Patriarch Mashalian, the Arme- nian Patriarch of Turkey, Dear Members of the Armenian People, Dear Compatriots, I greet you with heartfelt feelings and love. This year, I also remember with respect the Ottoman Armenians who lost their lives in the difficult condi- tions of the First World War and once again express my condolences to their grandchildren. During the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, those who lost their lives due to various reasons, such as occupa- tions, conflicts, rebellions, gang move- ments, terrorist acts, and epidemics, those who were displaced from their lands in the Balkans, the Caucasus, and the Arabian Peninsula, and those who experienced sorrows in their homes all over Anatolia, suffered deep pain. Among the Armenian compatriots who were Ottoman subjects, brought their presence to all spheres of social life under Ottoman rule, and were known for their valuable contribu- tions, there were, unfortunately, also those who became victims of these great pains. We succeeded in building the Re- public of Turkey by not forgetting these pains and by knowing the way to overcome them. To achieve more desirable days marked by peace, prosperity, and brotherhood, we continue to work and struggle together with all our compa- triots and friends, regardless of their national or religious affiliations. We strive to leave future genera- tions, instead of negative memories, a legacy of truths, girded with conscien- tious expressions. To give the most appropriate re- sponse to those who want to extract hostility from history, we will not be confined to ideological molds; we pre- fer expressions of peace, penetration, and dialogue, and we see rapproche- ment as the basis for choosing agree- ment over conflict. As 86 million, we will build our fu- ture together and leave a legacy for our grandchildren. With these thoughts, I once again share the pains suffered by the Arme- nian people in the past, and I respect- fully remember all our compatriots who were Ottoman subjects and lost their lives.
