The Armenian delegation is participat- ing in the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee, taking place in Busan, Republic of Korea. Addressing the general debate, H.E. Aram Hakobyan, Permanent Del- egate of Armenia to UNESCO, reaf- firmed Armenia’s commitment, as a first-time member of the Committee, to work closely with all stakeholders to further strengthen the implementa- tion of the 1972 World Heritage Con- vention. Hakobyan commended the efforts of the UNESCO World Heritage Cen- tre in supporting States Parties that re- main underrepresented on the World Heritage List and underscored the im- portance of further strengthening the Centre’s capacities. Referring to the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the Conven- tion on Biological Diversity, which Armenia will host in October 2026, Hakobyan also praised the World Heri- tage Centre’s role in advancing climate action and biodiversity conservation by fostering stronger links between the protection of cultural and natural heritage and the preservation of biodi- versity.
