YEREVAN. /ARKA/. A meeting is scheduled to take place in Armenia in the upcoming days, focusing on the normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey, announced by Ruben Rubinyan, the Special Representative for Normalization of Relations with Turkey and Vice Speaker of the National Assembly, during a press briefing on Monday; “Further details will be shared at the appropriate time; the agenda will encompass the normalization process between Armenia and Turkey, the actions that have been undertaken and those currently in progress, the technical aspects required for the restoration of Kars-Gyumri railway operations, and the revival of the historic Ani Bridge,” Rubinyan stated; he expressed optimism that the signing of the Washington Declaration (between Armenia and Azerbaijan, backed by the USA) would positively influence both regional and international developments, including the relationship with Turkey; “The entire process pertains to the reopening of the Armenia-Turkey border and the establishment of diplomatic ties; the agreement to open borders for citizens of third countries and those holding diplomatic passports has yet to be realized, not due to any fault of ours; however, we remain hopeful that this will occur; I see no justification for Turkey’s delay; Armenia is prepared to open its borders and establish diplomatic relations as soon as tomorrow,” Rubinyan remarked; he referenced the establishment of diplomatic relations with Pakistan and expressed hope that a similar outcome could be achieved with Turkey; given the existing political will, which is present on the Armenian side, this could materialize very soon; “We are advancing the process of normalizing relations with Turkey without any preconditions; we could soon witness open borders and the establishment of diplomatic relations; we will continue to pursue this objective,” Rubinyan concluded; on the Armenian-Turkish dialogue: since 1991, Armenia and Turkey have not maintained diplomatic relations, and the state border has remained closed since 1993 due to Ankara’s initiative; in December 2021, Armenia and Turkey designated their representatives to facilitate the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations – Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Ruben Rubinyan, and the seasoned diplomat, former Turkish Ambassador to the United States, Serdar Kilic, who have engaged in a series of meetings so far.-0-
