Reflection – Faith is more than agreeing with Christian truth in our minds.
A person may know many facts about Jesus, understand the message of the gospel, and even admire His teach-ing, yet still remain unchanged. Biblical faith goes deeper than intellectual knowledge. It reaches the heart and is openly confessed through the mouth.
Paul describes two inseparable ex-
pressions of genuine faith:
Believing in the heart means placing our personal trust in Jesus Christ.
It is more than accepting that the resurrection happened historically. It means relying on the risen Christ as our Sav-ior, surrendering to Him as Lord, and trusting that His death and resurrection are sufficient for our salvation.
Confessing with the mouth means openly acknowledging that Jesus is Lord. True faith does not remain hidden as a private opinion. It expresses itself through our words, our worship, our obedience, and the direction of our lives.
The heart and the mouth belong to-gether. What truly fills the heart eventually appears in our speech and con-duct. Jesus said that the mouth speaks from the abundance of the heart.
Therefore, confessing Christ is not merely repeating a religious phrase. It is the outward expression of an inward surrender.
This confession also carries great meaning: “Jesus is Lord.” It means that He has authority over our choices, relationships, ambitions, possessions, and future. We do not simply receive Him as the One who saves us from judgment; we submit to Him as the One who rules our lives.
Salvation is not earned by saying the correct words. It is received by faith in Christ. Yet genuine faith naturally confesses Him because a heart that truly believes cannot remain silent about its Lord.
Christianity is therefore more than knowing about Jesus. It is knowing Him personally, trusting Him com-pletely, confessing Him courageously, and following Him faithfully.
Practical Application – Ask your-
self today:
“Do I merely know truths about Je-sus, or have I personally entrusted my life to Him?”
Then consider:
“Does the way I speak and live openly confess that Jesus is my Lord?” Take one opportunity today to speak about Christ with sincerity and to obey Him in an area you have not fully surrendered.
