Dear Appo,

I just read your well researched and eye-opening editorial titled “Are Karekin II, Hovnan Derderian and Joseph Kanimian Collaborating to Execute a Big Plan?” in USAAL issue #1729, May 15-21. It made me completely and utterly sad that there seems to be a notorious gang of so-called spiritual leaders of the Armenian nation out there to take advantage of their own people —the very people who are still suffering from the open wounds inflicted by the Ottoman Turks.

If the allegations and the worldwide investigations by various law enforcement agencies are true, then our clique should be stopped at any cost of scandal before the imposters get away with their plunder. Frankly, I did not realize that this is such a big scandal reflecting on the Armenian people with shame and deep disgrace.

The more evidence of their ignominy is surfacing by various independent researchers, the more it exonerates you for having any personal ax to grind for exposing them, except to fight as a social reformer and activist to change the current corrupt social system for the better. Somebody must slay the dragons.

Your editorial serves as a rude awakening to a lot of people. Under the cloak of spirituality, these individuals seem out there to defraud the Armenian community both in the Diaspora and in the Republic of Armenia.

The inevitable conclusion is that you are championing to save the Armenian Church and other institutions from getting deeper into the cesspool of cannibalism of the Armenian people and their proud heritage.

As a reader of USAAL, I respect you for disregarding the politically correct posture in attempting to drain the swamp for restoring the dignity of our centuries-old beloved Armenian Orthodox Church. Thank you and wish you more power in that noble endeavor!

I look forward to reading more of your informative and empowering editorials.

Take care,
Prof. Z. S. Andrew Demirdjian

  1. If Armenians were smart we all should leave the Armenian Apostolic church and join the Armenian protestant church. The Armenian evangelic church ,it would be much better for us. These days the Armenian apostolic church sucks. And our clergies have become
a bunch of mafia thieves. I don t go to church any more.
