WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Presi- dent Donald Trump once again referred to the Armenian Genocide as “Meds Yeghern” in his annual message. “Today, we honor the memory of the countless Armenians who were de- ported and brutally killed during the Meds Yeghern. This tragic chapter in human history will forever stand as a testament to the resilience of the Ar- menian people and the hope rooted in Christianity. We honor the profound strength and determination demon- strated by Armenians in overcoming the immense tragedies of the past and in building a better future defined by lasting prosperity, security, and peace. We stand with them,” Trump’s mes- sage states. Trump also addressed U.S.-Arme- nia relations and his Peace Council initiative: “The United States and Ar- menia will continue to work together toward building a safer and more prosperous world. My administration is strengthening our strategic partner- ship, creating meaningful opportuni- ties for the Armenian people and pro- moting long-term stability across the South Caucasus region. Today, Ameri- cans and Armenians stand side by side in a historic Peace Council, united in our mission to usher in a new era of peace through strength.” The United States has officially recognized the Armenian Genocide at both the presidential level and by both chambers of Congress. The 46th U.S. President, Joe Biden, has used the term “Armenian Genocide” in his April 24 statements since 2021. During his first presidency, Trump also used the term “Meds Yeghern” when referring to the Armenian Geno- cide—a phrase first used in 2009 by the 44th U.S. President, Barack Obama. Below is the full text of the message: Presidential Message on Arme- nian Remembrance Day Today, we pay tribute to the count- less Armenians who were exiled and brutally massacred during the Meds Yeghern.
