YEREVAN — The Central Bank of Armenia will put into circulation a sil- ver commemorative coin dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia on September 14, 2026, the bank announced. The period of Armenia’s Third Re- public began on September 21, 1991. Following independence, the country established its state symbols—the flag, coat of arms and national anthem—as well as state honors, including titles, orders and medals. On November 22, 1993, Armenia introduced its national currency, the dram. The establishment of an indepen- dent democratic state contributed to the preservation and strengthening of national identity and traditions. The Armenian Apostolic Church also as- sumed a greater role in public life. Among the most significant achievements of the inde- pendence era was the establishment of the national army as a defend- er of Armenian statehood. Today, Ar- menia is a mem- ber of the United Nations, Com- monwealth of I n d e p e n d e n t States, Council of Europe, World Trade Organization, Eurasian Eco- nomic Union and other international organizations. The obverse of the commemora- tive coin features the coat of arms of the Republic of Armenia and an Arme- nian ornamental design. The reverse depicts the National Assembly building, designed by archi- tect M. Grigoryan in 1950, along with a stylized Armenian tricolor and the inscription “35th Anniversary of the Republic of Armenia.” It also features a line from Armenia’s national anthem, Mer Hayrenik (“Our Fatherland”): “… May Armenia always be glorious.” The anthem’s lyrics were written by Mikael Nalbandian, with music by Barsegh Kanachyan. The coin was designed by Eduard Kurghinyan and minted at the Lithu- anian Mint.
