YEREVAN /ARKA/. Armenia has re- instated a government program aimed at providing affordable housing for families residing in border areas and other communities, as announced by Gayane Karagezyan, Advisor and Co- ordinator of Individual Functions of the Structural Divisions of the Minis- try of Labor and Social Affairs. “Families who have obtained a con- struction permit or land plot by May 1, 2025, and meet the current program criteria will be prioritized,” Karagezy- an stated during a press conference on Monday, as reported by Armenpress. She mentioned that families who have secured a permit and purchased a land plot but were unable to utilize the pro- gram previously can now apply. “Land acquisition encompasses purchase and sale transactions, inheri- tance, gifts, changes in land plot status, and other circumstances,” Karagezyan explained, noting that around 400 families are being considered for the program. She emphasized that the pro- gram targets communities with low participation rates, as well as regions where new schools and kindergartens are under construction. In the first scenario, new quotas will be allocated only to families where at least one spouse has been registered in the community within the last year. In the second scenario, participants must have at least one child under the age of 10, not own property in Yerevan, and not have been registered in the capital in the past year. As Karagezyan highlighted, 2,319 applicants have been granted benefi- ciary status under the program to date, with 2,276 already receiving loans. “The vast majority of applicants hail from the Tavush region, followed by Syunik, Gegharkunik, Vayots Dzor, and Ararat regions. So far, 291 appli- cants have submitted a construction completion certificate, indicating their homes are ready for occupancy,” she noted. Karagyozyan also reported that the amount of state support under the pro- gram is 16 million drams. However, for the settlements of Berkaber, Kirants, Baganis, and Voskepar in the Tavush region, the amount has been increased to 21 million drams. According to her, after the program’s relaunch, 1,420 quotas are allocated.
